About The Artwork

This drawing was created as part of a series called Growing Up that was derived after an outdoor model session. I was exploring ideas of personal exploration and understanding. The work is framed and is sealed with a clear acrylic gel medium so it doesn't require glass. This is a new practice I've developed that sets the charcoal and conte provided a greater archival quality and allows the viewer to get a closer view to the work. This drawing has been in several shows since it's creation.

Light in Life, both in people and our surroundings, inspire me. I was born in Camrose, Alberta and I currently have my home studio in Stony Plain, Alberta where I was raised. I started showing and selling my work when I was 14 years old, though I started studying art at an even younger age taking every art course I could go to, and even today I continue with my art education. I consider my larger oil paintings as more fully realized works. I also create sketches, studies, and small works in oil, acrylic, gouache, or watercolor; as well as, drawings in various pencils, charcoals, and inks. I use the human form as a language tool to communicate ideas and emotions that I feel are beyond words. Though the main study and subject I am interested in is the human figure, I also dabble in representational landscapes, cityscapes, and still life. By painting other subject matter it helps to inform and improve my figurative work and also keeps my brush wet in between figurative projects. I have won a Portrait Society of America Tuition Award in 2014 and in the same year had two paintings rank 9th and 10th place in The Portrait Society of Canada's Portrait Competition.
