To make sense of the world, to describe the indescribable, we reach for comparisons. What is it like? This is like That. What does it feel like? In this case a sketchbook page of blank faces were combined, in layers, with another page of hardware, and screws became headaches. Headaches themselves are useful metaphors for the everyday tortures of life. The aggravations don't necessarily make the head hurt, and the head isn't actually being impaled with screws from the hardware store, but we get the picture.
