Kirikane Guilloché v.1 Drawing

This unique artwork has been carefully handmade by the artist, Kate Ive. It combines two innovative techniques specific to Kate's current research and body of work. Kate first hand-turns the drawing to create the intricate geometric pattern. Each is unique and not repeated. She then heat-bonds and hand-cuts incredibly thin strands of real silver. These silver strands are then laid on the drawing, taking inspiration from the Ancient Japanese technique of 'Kirikane'. This is delicate and precise work as even the gentlest breeze can break the fragile silver strands during application. A steady hand and much patience is required! The patterns explore the geometry of life, taking inspiration from rhythms and vibrations found in the natural world.
