About The Artwork

These original pastel pieces done by New York artist Lou Patrou while living in Los Angeles in the mid 1980's are available for sale for the first time. They have been in a protected flat file in a climate controlled studio of the artist for all these decades. Many of these iconic images have been enlarged and printed as signed editions on paper, some images have been published in various magazines and art blogs over the years, some have been enlarged behind plexi and shown in a Chelsea Gallery in New York City and reviewed by Gallery & Studio Magazine. This piece was done on heavy watercolor paper and later sprayed with a clear glossy art fixative medium on both sides and it will not smudge.

Lou Patrou has been drawing and painting faces and figures since the 1960s. Patrou's work is some times difficult to categorize because he doesn't always use the same artistic language, repeat the same disciplines or follow a straight direction with his work. The only definitive thing you could say is that he is obsessed with making faces and finding new ways to create designs and forms out of them. Lou has exhibited his work in galleries in New York City, San Diego, Los Angeles, upstate New York, New Orleans and London. His mix of whimsical & Pop, pattern and puzzle, surrealistic images are finding their way onto various products. Over the years he began selling large mural prints of his work on various substrates as installation pieces. He exhibits his original work in galleries and also produces unique edition prints. In addition, in the last few years, Lou has been very involved in product development and licensing, and has been incorporating his work into product design. Lou participated in the Cartoon Network's 20th Anniversary Show for ComicCon 2012 in San Diego. His painting for the show is featured in the limited hard cover book published exclusively for Turner Entertainment. Lou's Pop Surreal and pattern paintings were chosen to be included in the Firebox Artist Collection of hand pressed collectible micro-booklets that is currently touring France as part of a group show of international artists. His work is constantly being featured in countless art blogs as well as in magazines from allover the globe such as BG Magazine of Ecuador and collectible books like; InPrint, Artists 101, The Artist's Catalogue, Emboss, Art Voices, 6 Years Later and ColorInk. Lou currently lives in the greater New York City area and has developed a following among collectors and fans of his work all over the US and abroad.
