About The Artwork

I am influenced by landscape and patterns found in nature, under a microscope, under water or from the sky. I draw instinctively without a plan and find the hypnotic, rhythmic process meditative and therapeutic. I love to use bright colours to uplift my mood and hopefully those that view my drawings. I use fade proof fine line pens on Bristol Board.

I was born in The New Forest in Hampshire, UK, lived and worked in London and travelled extensively through Asia and India before having children and returning to live in Hampshire. I have always felt a need to create, a love of colour and patterns and a connection to nature and its calming influence. I am heavily influenced by my surroundings. My drawings are inspired by patterns I see in nature, often gone unnoticed. I began drawing again for myself at around 2018 after looking at the works of Ernst Haeckel and micrographs of plant cells. I fell in love with the details, patterns and intricacies of natures details. I love to explore my natural surroundings looking at patterns, colour and shapes to reflect upon before starting a new drawing. I'm also interested in the uncanny similarity of shapes and patterns found in nature in different scales and take inspiration from photographers documenting these whether they be from under a microscope or from vast aerial photographs. I find the motion of drawing spherical shapes meditative and therapeutic offering escapism and clarity of thought at times of stress and uncertainty. These are unique, one off, time consuming pieces that can't be repeated. I prefer to use bright colours as I find them uplifting and hope this will be felt by anyone viewing my drawings. I also like the contrast of black ink on white but always return to colour. I hope to create large scale centre pieces in pen and acrylic. I have been documenting my creative journey on instagram, starting with experimental shapes and single elements leading to larger and full page patterns and then returning to fragments, always focusing on an influence from nature.
