About The Artwork

My pure love of motorcycling prompted this drawing of an old Harley Davidson spark plug box. There’s an almost magical sentiment around HD in the biker world – call it the romantic idea of freedom, endless highways and big skies, ratty knucklehead bikes and roadside breakdowns with your pals, or the rose-tinted notion of joining a biker club. And not forgetting those super cool old Harley ads from decades ago, which inspired the name of this piece.

Amy Miles is an artist based in East London, working in a hyperrealistic style using coloured pencils and graphite. After working in the fashion industry as a writer and editor for a decade, she decided to pursue drawing and visual art. Inspired by artists such as Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol and Wes Lang, Amy’s work explores the relationship we have with objects, pop culture products and brands. Her work is influenced by a lifelong interest in Americana, the open road, cowboys, the 1970s, and luxury fashion. Her presentation of objects – often alone on white paper – reflects the way luxury items are showcased in product photography. Each work requires long periods of precise drawing to complete, with some pieces taking more than 80 hours to produce. They become a meditation on the tiny details of each object that would otherwise go unnoticed, encouraging the viewer to spend time appreciating the small things, too. Most recently, Amy's work has been featured in the Coloured Pencil Magazine, and she has attended London's Slade School of Fine Art to develop a burgeoning painting practice.
