This portrait was inspired by a photograph taken in the traditional market of Ubud in Bali. The look of this old lady caught my attention when I first saw the picture and I decided that I wanted to perpetuate it through this drawing.

Ana was born in Portugal in 1986. Brought up in the countryside, she was a strong-willed child who loved to learn, explore and create. In her youth, she decided to learn more about painting and the creative process. Ana has been living in London since 2015. Ana Palma’s practice intends to explore the relationship between human beings and Nature. Women, insects, and other natural elements are brought together, as a result of her fascination and longing for the natural world. She uses a variety of materials but mainly watercolour, watercolour pencils on paper, with which she explores her drawing idiosyncrasy and her curiosity for colour and its transparencies. It all begins with a drawing, usually from photographs and objects that Ana collects. Her creative process is intuitive, as she allows herself to be free and make choices based on what she feels. Therefore, each artwork is an experience that results in a figurative style, expressing her personal journeys to memories, emotions and symbolism.
