About The Artwork

This piece represents the idea that the mind can take flight if the beholder wills it to. With intention, we can transform from a closed-minded human being to a more conscious and meaningful version of ourselves. The idea behind this artwork stemmed from my personal beliefs relating to my views on the world. I believe that open-mindedness and depth will set us free and cultivate true meaning and happiness amongst all human beings. This drawing/painting also represents letting go of the fallacies of the mind that hold us back and expanding our conscious selves in order to be more at peace and reach higher intellectual levels and experience true happiness. The title metamorphosis is representative of the transformative journey from the material world to the greater realm of consciousness that the mind embarks on once fully opened. This project was done as a part of my high school AP art portfolio. My portfolio theme was the concept of finding the beauty in life and death and expanding the mind and soul in order to generate eternal peace and tranquility. This theme is not meant to be taken into religious context, but rather mental healing. The idea is that even when death or tragedy occurs, it is important for one to keep those they lost or the things that are of importance to them close to their heart in order to make it through harder times and become stronger. Another key concept that linked all of my projects together is mental health, which is a very prominent issue in today's world. Most of my artwork somehow touches on mental health issues and either explains what they are or provides ways to overcome them. I would like to dedicate this piece, as well as all of my other pieces of artwork to my father, who passed away from lung cancer when I was 9 years old. His love will live eternally inside me and inspire me every day. 50% of proceeds from my prints sold on Saatchi goes toward Camp Kesem, a summer camp for children whose parents have had cancer. As someone who has gone to this camp for years and volunteered with Kesem, I can truly say it is the most caring, unique, and accepting environment I have ever had the pleasure to experience. Kesem helped me through the hardest time in my life and the least I can do is give back.
