About The Artwork

I was commissioned to draw and etch this piece into a piece of prehistoric Ivory, with the photo to be used as the cover art for a book entitled "Metichewan", a legend of an Indian princess in the Connecticut state area USA, where the author lived and researched the legend to write and publish the book. This is the artwork I made and the photo was used for the cover of his book. The art process and craftsmanship is known in America as the at of Scrimshaw" and the technique is exactly the same as etching but instead of using a printing press, the final artwork is in the surface of the ivory itself. using the same art techniques of "stippling, cross hatching just as in etching and using he same steel scribe stylus tool for dots and lines and Xacto knife and ink for cross hatching and darks shading.
