Wolf Creek, IL tree. . I wanted to execute the ominous vibe that this ugly tree gave off. It was sitting in the shade of other tree's, half dead, protruding branches that almost look foreign to the tree itself. Some area's I added in more detail then others as to draw attention to them. Also note the one vine that was hanging down resting on a high branch then following the trunk all the way down. After adding in the amount of detail I wanted to see, I then added all of those squigglies and accent marks. Sharp lines giving the sense of the tree blending into the shadows of the forest that surrounds it or perhaps the branches and trees before and beyond it. Essentially I was going for a very dark, ominous, and ugly sort of tree. 6 ft vertical by three ft wide. Charcoals on high grade Strathemore charcoal paper.

Hello, my name is Brian Spencer. I was born in Mattoon, IL. As a child, I found most of my days were spent drawing. There was no concern for what kind of paper I was drawing on or what medium I was using, I was naturally drawn to Art and creation. I was in private school for most of my young school life where I studied under master artist Linda Ray of EIU. Linda was the major push I needed artistically. With the guidance of Linda and my natural talents, I would go on to enter a couple pieces into competitions in which I would win 1st places several times. Though, I must say, I do not really like the thought of art as competition yet It does tend to inspire great works. Nowadays I am coming into swing with my art yet I know I have much to learn. I have been drawing portraits and more recently animal portraits. At the end of it all I just enjoy art and I hope that with the art I produce, I can invoke emotions and thought into the viewer. I will also say, that I am fresh to the gallery scene, so any advice from artists/collectors/viewers/ is much appreciated. I know my artwork is primitive but I have fun with what I am doing. As of right now I am trying to use all of the materials I have, which is primarily graphite/charcoal and paper. I hope that in using up all of my materials I will create something that someone else will enjoy and hopefully that will help me fund more art.
