About The Artwork

In the future, the worlds resources become very scarce. Humans have used everything up. Some artists resort to buying paint on the black market. This paint has been produced by stealing historic paintings and dipping them in a solution that is reconstituted into reusable paint. The value of new paintings made with rare colours has exceeded the value of old paintings. Even the old canvas stretchers are recycled. People want new things, despite sacrificing the old to produce them. Paint Thief is also a tongue and cheek painting about appropriation, using the painting titled Girl with a Pearl Earring 1665 by Johannes Vermeer. Appropriation in art is not a new thing, there are hundreds of copies of the Girl with a Pearl Earring. The qualities that have made Vermeer's iconic portrait make it such a popular subject for oil painters to try and emulate, many artists and portrait painters would love to have even a small measure of understanding regarding Vermeer's painting technique. But perhaps at its most simplest, Paint Thief is a painting playing with the famous Pablo Picasso quote "Good artists copy, great artists steal".

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I am a painter who travels time, creating paintings from both a future and a past. Travelling to distant colonies on other planets, revisiting lunar landings, childhood memories and future stories untold. I visit art galleries in the future and revisit museums exhibitions in the past. My paintings are created digitally. This way of making my paintings gives me the ability to edit the image as I work. Currently the work only exists digitally but the hope is that one day I will have a factory of assistants reproducing the digital images pixel by pixel in real paint, on real canvas the size of billboards.
