About The Artwork

"Betty: Farewell To The Monk" is an ink sketch artwork which belongs to the series "Pomegranate Queen", inspired by my recent psychotherapeutic journey back in time to my adolescent years. The full story, hidden in the series, can be reconstructed in the following order: Ettie, Dodi, Rivka, Ella & Aviva, Magda, Betty, and Ilana. Consequentially, I have decided to use my poems from the same time period for these art pieces. Betty wanted to find her father. She spent many years hiking to the top of the highest mountains to discover his remote dwelling. She spent some time in seclusion with him, under his strict supervision, however after her man came for her, she decided to choose her human lifestyle over the secluded ultra-spiritual living of her father. Before she departs, the monk is giving her instructions and showing her the way. The pregnancy in this picture represents the essence of the human side of life. (C) 2002 TRANSLATED POETRY (ENGLISH) “Do you want a baby?” “Not a word about children !!! I do not want eternal cries and nervous cackles. I myself still fit to frolic like the wind, No worries, no problems, no unnecessary shackles.” “How do you feel about children?” “Now or later? The prose of sleepless nights is still alien to me. I want to enjoy romantic trembling, To be insanely desired, but single and free.” “ Will you wait with babies or get busy now?” “Oh please! We just finished the wedding day scene. We still have so many new weird discoveries, New faces, new countries, and new roles to see. “No nausea?” “Yes, I’m nauseous ...” “And pickle?” “Full platter.” “It can’t be ... When did we? What a year-end thrill... But we didn’t want to ... You are right, it doesn’t matter ...” “Are you happy?” “Of course.” “And if it’s a daughter?” “It’s God’s will!” (C) 2002 *** All original paintings include a certificate of authentication and a piece of original and translated poetry with an autograph attached to the back of the painting.

Elena Emma's unique painting and writing style exudes infinite inner depth and freedom. All of her paintings, completed with an illustrative playful touch, have a piece of unique, immensely deep poetry dedicated to them, contrasting the complexity of adult-like subjects with child-like strokes. As a diverse writer, emerging artist, startup consultant and entrepreneur, a professor, a mother of two boys, and a passionate, curious, and spiritual woman, Elena draws her inspiration from experiential fearlessness, deep observational analysis, continuous soul searching, and never-ending internal and external growth. Her visual and written stories, often told from a female perspective, concentrate on exploring the larger picture in business, love, and being. They stimulate the reader and the viewer with open-ended questions and strong encouragement to find his or her own truth. Her characters and situations are multi-dimensional, and through them, she often challenges widely-accepted designations of personal and professional, new and old, right and wrong, good and bad, blurring the preset differences between these terms, and offering new definitions. Elena is the authentic "voice" of her generation, of those born in the 1980s and 1990s to a world of distorted physical, geographical, and moral boundaries, who are yet to find balance between the inborn inner wisdom and cynical dissonance of outside happenings. Be it fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or paintings, Elena Emma's artwork will leave you mildly teary-eyed and contemplative about your own daily existence and the changes you can make to it. THE SKY IS NO LIMIT.
