About The Artwork

Like a melon is a very powerful work, inspired by a poem by the famous Rupi Kahur; it depicts the internal rupture, the 'evisceration' and the sense of emptiness that a woman feels after experiencing violence. It is a strong work, at times disturbing both psychologically and visually. Made with diluted acrylics and rendered fluid with midium, the red recalls the pain while the gold recalls the beauty that remains even after it. It is a continuous cascade that can represent total fall or rebirth.

Maria Vittoria is a 26-year-old psychologist who started painting for herself almost ten years ago, influenced by the art that has been running through her veins for generations, in fact many in her family are artists and creators of beautiful art forms, but no one has ever had the courage to expose themselves. Today she does. A psychologist by profession and an artist by passion, with a desire to combine both. The art that Maria Vittori creates is abstract, true, pure, introspective and empathetic. When she paints, she does it out of her own need but creates something that becomes accessible to everyone. She loves to personalise the work, to get to know the person who wants to buy it, to understand who one is what one does and what one loves and where she wants to put it, trying to fit it to perfection. There is a lot of psychology in it, you just have to have the eyes to look at it. The abstraction is enhanced by the play of colours, by the combination of strong and unlikely colours together but which work together in a certain harmony. The particular feature is the use of different techniques, from brushstrokes to spatula strokes to the use of more fluid and diluted colours. There is no rule and no feature that is punctually used, but the details form a whole that is more than the sum of its individual parts.
