Artist statement As an artist I am triggered by the phenomenon ‘Power’ How does this phenomenon occur and what are its foreseen and unforeseen consequences? Implicating social and economical changes, were mostly the people are target, in being manipulated and misguided by social media and the internet, were data are the important tool. In my projects I respond to these consequences. Doing a lot of research, par example the artists and their role in history, I draw lines from there to the contemporary art. An important source of inspiration for me. My images I find in newspapers, on the internet, magazines and in my own works. By transforming and enlarging these materials, searching for an unexpected and unusual context, with the suggestion underlying the surface, I find that I reach the audience. By constantly reaching and renewing within myself I try to continue that line. Zapp Notes Project 2016 – 2017 Zapp Notes refer to this place and time we live in. In these works I try to indicate the contrast between intensity of the moment and ‘everywhere’ Zapp behaviour. The world we live in a nutshell and one should be part of it and everything is online and everyone is plugged-in. The time and space where we (in the Western world) are desperately looking electronic sensors, that provide our needs. ©)Riedstra

Riedstra started drawing at a young age and in the following years, after finishing her education at St Martins, London (M.A. Scenography), she developed an authentic style, that characterises her as a professional artist, fully aware of the world she lives in and fully aware of how to respond to the estrangement she encounters in society. This being her point of departure. (Her extensive traveling and living abroad had a major impact on her view of the world) Her talent is being recognized and this gives her the opportunity to work freely, from within herself, without being bordered by what is agreeable and fashionable. As a photographer Riedstra uses this very same talent, the eye of the camera becoming her drawing tool so to speak. Her photographs were chosen for a major exhibition at the Louvre in Paris. Her works are in the collection of the City Museum in Tetovo, Macedonia, and Budapest. Several drawings from the Renaissance project were bought by private collectors in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, France, USA. Several paintings are in private collections.
