About The Artwork

The Trigonimus - the designation of the style of painting by Rainer M. Thurau - uses the geometric shape of the triangle, integrates it into naturalistic painting and conveys three-dimensional depth by consistent and uncompromising room shades within the triangle. The Trigonismus exposes a closeness to the italian Futurism of the twenties of the last century (Boccioni, Russolo, Balla i.a.), the Russian Cubo-Futurism (Malevich, Popova, among others) and to the artists Delaunay and Marc. On one hand, based on the creed of Ferdinand Leger "Modern man lives more and more in a predominantly geometric order" the Trigonismus feels clearly connected also to the naturalism and realism and avoids to disperse the realism exclusively into cubist and expressive structures. The naturalistic content of the image remains clearly identifiable as a motive, however the spatial geometrical resolutions try to emphasize emotions and intentions of the artist, to highlight the characteristics of the subject, and at the same time to create the impression of three-dimensionality.
