ABOUT THE ARTWORK

black ink monotype on 170g DOREE paper, APRIL 2016. Monotype drawing used as a drawing technique creates the effect of a lithography. But contrary to lithography, my drawings are strictly one of a kind, 100% original and unique copies: they are drawn without any optical devices (e.g. they are no flatly copied wall projections of slides, or stencils (French: "copies au pochoir") as commonly used in street art), they aren't copies of photos and there isn't any preliminary tracing (French: "calque")). Note that many of my colored drawings show slight undulations around the colored parts due to water intervention on the big size paper sheets and the relative thinness of the 110g flyleaf paper (= pressed vergé or holland paper mainly used for flyleafs in bookbinding) (monotype as I practice it would not be effective on thick papers). You can see the same on the huge watercolor drawings of Marlene Dumas and she evidently uses it as technique of 3D enhancement of the drawing, showing somewhat a special halo. So do I. Note that my drawings are sent rolled and very well protected in a tube. The 100x70cm (billboard size) drawings are even sent in a double tube, i.e. a tube inside another tube. The 110g paper won't be wrinkled or damaged at all by being rolled, The drawing is signed an a certificate of authenticity is added.

Höre, ich will Dir was sagen ... Volney (Les Ruines, 1792) ++ "Everybody is reactionary on subjects they know about" R. Conquest
