About The Artwork

This is part of a series of giant drawing I did in the late 1980's. They were generally figurative, and some were pornographic. They all were done with oil sticks. Adam which you see in my drawings in the Saatchi online gallery is a pair with Eve. Both are unframed and will require presentation either in a very tall art frame or displayed like an Asian hanging. (see Chimney Rocks for an example). The paper the drawing is drawn upon is archival paper from a roll. The oil sticks used permanent. The work was inspired by the numerous old master drawings of Adam and Eve, such as the ones done by Albrecht Durer, whose distinctive sign is plagiarized in the drawing, and Lucas Cranach, among many others. I hope the viewer will see the fun of these important figures drawn at a scale bigger than the Renaissance pieces. I was playing with art history concepts in a way that would lead to something modern while honoring the past.

I just finished “Facing Time,” an art and essay project about my’ self-portraits from 1973 to 2019. The book is in preparation for publication in 2020-2021. I wrote many articles about art and art communities. The latest is a series of 5 articles titled “Joan of Art Ghosts the Arts District” published on the WordPress blog, “The Art Doctore,” 2019.
