About The Artwork

In this work entitled "Straw Dogs" I inserted the image of my face into the visual reconstruction of the original poster of the movie “Straw Dogs” directed by Sam Peckinpah. In my mixed media painting, I ironically imagined that I played this movie and replaced the real actor of the film which was the great Dustin Hoffman.⁣ "Cane di Paglia" represents “my movie” par excellence, an audiovisual work that ideally I would have liked to create but which was completed (certainly better than I could have done by myself!) by the great Sam Peckinpah.⁣ His work constitutes a sort of ante-litteram interpretation of my thought about the theme of violence.⁣ “Straw Dogs” narrates the story of an american mathematician (Dustin Hoffmann) who moves to a village in England in order to devote himself to his work. Immediately he was harassed by the locals. A group of young people, whom the mathematician had previously called his home to do some work, even raped his young wife. She says nothing to her husband but the clash with the locals is really near. When these young men try to assault his house to lynch a man with psychological problems, the mild and peaceful mathematician turns into a genius of the massacre. The title "Straw dog" is the protagonist, the mathematician immersed in his high mathematics calculations who finds in his wife Amy, a real "meat doll", space where to release his sexual impulses. Only in the end the violence and the savagery of the protagonist explode. He passes from the insipid passivity characterizing him until that moment to a ruthless murderous perfection.
