About The Artwork

Baltimore has such an important historical place in the events of the United States’ birth and formative years. This piece comes from an exploration of a historical landmark in Baltimore - Fort McHenry. General George Armistead was in charge of Fort McHenry during the 25-hr bombing campaign of the British in the War of 1812. He would later die of “casualties of the nervous system from the extreme stress of the bombing”, from which comes our Star-Spangled Banner.
