THE WOOD GROUSE BIRD Soft pastel, paper. Size: 42.4 W x 30.4 (unframed) This artwork is sold unframed. The wood grouse is one of the largest and most unusual birds. She is interesting because during the performance of her song she loses her hearing for some time. This deafness is beneficial to hunters since the bird does not hear the shots. It's hard for this bird to fly. Very rarely, it can climb a branch, it mainly lives on the ground. This bird also loves to eat berries, especially blueberries. At the beginning of autumn, the capercaillie stocks up on stones. In winter the food is coarse and hard, and stones in the stomach grind it up for better assimilation. During the winter several thousands of stones can accumulate in the wood grouse's stomach. I wanted to draw this interesting and cute bird. I used dark blue shades of soft pastel. I gently rubbed the pigment with my hand to depict the soft feathers and gave the picture a dark green hue that complemented the woodland image of the bird. The drawing is titled and signed on the back. It will be shipped to you unframed and unmatted. Supplied in a reinforced strong envelope safe and sound. Patel drawings are best decorated under glass and matte boards to protect them. Thanks for looking!
