About The Artwork
Graphite drawing on toned paper by Melanie Armstrong. The fox skull is a take on the metaphor of the gift of life (memento mori). It’s suggesting that instead of the skull being a symbol of death, it is rather a reminder to live life to the fullest. The acorn displays strength and potential; letting the viewer know that it’s the same within each of us, regardless of the starting point. And the mouse…. Well, the mouse is just eyeing up dinner. It has little time for such egotistical thoughts

I’m an artist based in the Peak District who also happens to love design. I’ve been obsessed with the local wildlife since I was a child, often giving the things I see personalities, anthropomorphizing them so to speak, imagining their perspective on our human idiosyncrasies. I look for the humour within. Inspiration is easy in my surroundings. Cycling the hills and valleys around my home allows countless interactions in a variety of settings, providing me with a unique perspective. It drives my creativity. I like to marry humour with technique and observation, all wrapped up in an artistic ball.
