About The Artwork

For inspiration from a photograph of the sky, you can see layers of reds as a new morning is about to appear. The blues, yellows and pinks all mixing to get ready for a new day. It's like an artist mixing paints and blending it all for a clear picture that is almost ready to present. I chose soft pastels that could easily blend and show the subtleties and delicate colors coming together. The expectation of the arrival and birth of a new day. Reminded me of a flag or great banner waving in the atmosphere.

Len Cicio is a draftsman, born in Brooklyn and currently living in Manhattan’s last natural forest, Inwood Park. His interest in design patterns, led him to an Associate Degree at The Fashion Inst. Of Technology, in textile design where he worked 15 years in home furnishings in the NYC market. The subway and architectural designs of Manhattan and Europe, became a keen interest along with Manhattan landscapes. His favorite mediums are colored pencils, pen & ink, and oil pastels. His influences have been Georgia O' Keefe, with her ability to strip away everything to its basic essence, Lyonel Feininger's towering abstract architectural compositions and Van Gogh's vibrant color palette. Collections were put together and exhibitions in local restaurants and libraries, such as The Morningside Heights, and The Hudson Park Library Branch in Manhattan. In 2015 he became part of a juried group exhibition at The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition. Sales of art pieces in private collections of Manhattan residents started happening. Len was a featured artist twice in The Manhattan Times, and once in Curator Magazine. He was commissioned by a non-profit organization Operation Exodus, in 2017, that helps teenagers from Upper Manhattan. At their 25th year gala in Soho, his piece was bid on at an auction and sold. He was one of the 32 artists featured in the illustrative magazine “Gwan Anthology,” led by established illustrator Jerome Walford. The Corcoran Group, used his work in marketing brochures for buildings on Park and Fifth Avenue, and later real estate newsletters at Douglas Elliman RE. Online, he was one of the featured artists of Artsy Shark and Manhattan Arts International. In September 2018 he had a solo exhibition at The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum in Inwood NY and in 2020, at The Armin & Estelle Gold Wing Gallery. His work of Northern Manhattan landscapes and subways, at this gallery, brought in a successful solo exhibit, of many sales of his art pieces. His work is also on Instagram at “lencicio” with over 1000 followers, as well as his facebook business page, “Lenicio Fine Art.” His former interest in textile designs, came back home with his own successful design collection of scarves on Etsy for accessories and wall hangings. His current interests have been developing his own home furnishing textile designs, and a series of black & white Subway patterns. https://www.etsy.com/shop/LenCicioFineArt
