My inspiration for this painting came from the spirited young, Nobel Laureate- Malala herself. After reading her story and observing her in the media, I felt that I knew her personally, and was impressed by the way she conducted herself in front of so many dignitaries with poise and gentle confidence. This painting is symbolic of her mission of fighting for girls’ education. Malala has fire in her eyes that ignite her followers…her body moves foreword, her right hand holds a flag of literacy, while her left hand is commanding w/ a pencil as her weapon. The landscape of books has a surreal feeling…..Malala’s father in the background is cheering her on….the girl w/ the laptop, guns slain to the ground -all reinforce her passionate message of “Triumph of education...”
