About The Artwork

“The red shirt blues” What’s really happening here? Even though I was awkward and had trouble speaking to people, I had to do many different things to survive. Every job requires communication skills, so I would constantly rehearse and review the information and ways to Communicate it to the customer. Canned speeches and stories to guide them through them and me through the interaction. Most taught by books and PowerPoint presentations, but for someone who isn’t able to communicate normally it just flicks a switch. It turns on a stream Of verbal diarrhea and unnecessary information that falls from your mouth when you’re not at work. I still constantly feel like I can’t communicate what is really happening inside. NSA stands for “not saying anything”. That was the original title of this piece. Feeling afraid to say what is really on your mind or in your heart, for fear of being censored or punished. Deliberately losing your self in a whirlwind of nonsense and silliness with no substance, and being terminally bored at the same time because you are hiding from substance and meaning. I retitled it “the red shirt blues” after a startrek trope because it best fit the theme of self sabotage that comes from over and under sharing at the same time. I still frequently feel unable to communicate these things. Having a deep conversation face to face makes me Jittery and nervous, and my brain does backflips about every word that comes out to try and find how I might be offending or annoying whoever I am talking to at the moment.

I work in pen, pastels, watercolors, acrylic, and oils. I paint landscapes and absurd/surreal work that flows in and out of an angular impression of the idea or scene. I work from memory a lot. I take a minimal impression of a scene, painted from memory and embedded with an impression of myself Or my thoughts within that moment. Sometimes sublime and beautiful, sometimes absurd. I will NEVER use A.I. for any part of the creation of my work. For me art is the sacred altar where I pray, I will never desecrate that altar with A.I.
