About The Artwork

'The Same Chair' is one of a series of drawings I made called 'The Isolation Drawings.' During the first 'lockdown' period in the UK I had to shield and so did not leave my house for any reason at all for many months. This created a new intimacy with my home environment and I started to more closely observe the details of various parts of my home and how the passing of time and the changing light affected the space and the objects I'm surrounded by. I decided to record this experience with a series of drawings of various areas of my home. I made this drawing with pencil and graphite on white cartridge paper. The drawing covers an approximate area of 10 x 7 inches or 26 x 18cm. I am selling this piece unframed and it will be shipped to you in a purpose-made secure tube. As a guide, my drawings look great in crisp white mounts and black frames (see additional photos for ideas) and you should be able to get this done fairly inexpensively.

I'm an artist working primarily in painting and drawing from my studio in rural Wiltshire, UK. I am fascinated by the relationship between language and images, and my current series, Sleep, is inspired by instances of sleep, insomnia, dreaming and nightmare in poems and other works of literature. In 2020, I completed a series of 48 small paintings inspired by T.S. Eliot's Four Quartets poems. Readings of the poems, set against the backdrop of my paintings, can be heard and seen on my YouTube channel. A book about the project will be published in 2021. My work is regularly exhibited in galleries and open exhibitions across the UK, and is included in private collections in the US, Australia, France and Britain.
