ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Drawing tribute to Van Gogh’s painting “the Sower”, on a Korean hand fan, in which the sower is scattering seeds above the lotus water garden in Kibbutz Ha’Zorea. This work establishes a connection between the local imagery of Israel and east-Asian art, with a humorous reference to western art history. The hand fan, purchased in a souvenir shop in Korea, serves as a “memento” of farming from a different age, at a time when working the land was still an object of desire and yearning.
