About The Artwork

This drawing symbolizes the life of a person for me. Ours may at times be tortuous and uneven in life, like these steps: narrow and wide, short and high. We do not know how our destiny will turn out and where our path leads. But we all hope that the light is at the end of the road. Black ink and white CANSON paper. Subtle elaboration with a stroke of a pen makes it possible to show the details of objects, the beauty of texture.

I am Marina Tereshkina, a pen artist. The theme of nature, animalism, and architecture is close to me. While working on a drawing, the process itself is an incredible pleasure: structuring the composition, creating density, saturating objects with details, transferring texture. I only use ink and a steel pen. And all I have is to sculpt the volume with a line, direction, length, and thickness. With a minimum of tools, I enjoy gaining a maximum of expressive possibilities. Modern technologies provided access to infinite information across the globe. The sense of unlimited possibilities in getting any data at any moment arose. You don't need to remember anything, concentrate and keep the focus. On the one hand, there is abundance and diversity. On the other hand, everything is relatively superficial. To observe, identify the main thing, notice the beauty in the flow of daily routine, and showcase this in detail – this is the goal I set for myself when working on a drawing. My artworks were created to show something valuable and unique in the object, to grab the moment, catch the viewer's eye, and, perhaps, slow down the race. I try to capture and show the essence in my works. In my opinion, this is the most important, essential. Convey the mood and character in detail, cut off the rest.
