Signed on back Can be hung any way Image size: A4 on A3 paper All materials archive quality For this piece of work, I was inspired somewhat by 20th century dystopian literature such as Brave New World and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Through this inspiration I decided to create a piece of work which focuses on the scope for individuality within a conformist society. I wanted to create portraits in the same basic style (similar clothing, hair and facial features- nose, mouth, eyes, etc) with distinct differences from one and other to portray individuality within their identities. Through this piece I wanted to create the feeling of entitlement to individuality whilst maintaining an attachment to society as a wider concept. I chose to use the monochromatic, clearly defined medium of black and white pen against paper to convey a visual image in its most basic form; which I felt would present the viewer with a concept, of uniformity, stripped back to its bare, necessary, essentials.
