About The Artwork
I chose to draw this friend of mine because of the way his head was modelled by the light from a single light bulb. I tend to make head studies rather than portraits because i want the final piece to be as much about the drawing itself as of the subject. I find that traditional modes of making portraits often involve a pandering to the vanity of the sitter and this notion creates an unnecessary tension which hinders the making of the piece.
