Drawing: Spray Paint, Enamel, Acrylic, Mylar, Mixed Media on Paper.
This work on paper is strongly influenced by mid-century abstraction, including the work of Henri Michaux and Zero artist Otto Piene, among others. This piece began by pouring solvent onto paper and immediately spraying paint into the flowing pool of liquid. The pigment of the sprayed paint freezes in time the fluid shapes of liquid while also reacting against it, forming unpredictable areas of shadow, depth and reflection as it spreads out over the picture plane. Later, the work was developed further in the studio where additional spills, drips and pools of paint were collaged onto the paper surface.
