The plant habit covers the surface of shallow waters and blocks sunlight to native species. Growing prolifically in many areas, it chokes out other water foliage essential to the native fauna. The human impact is on inflatable watercraft that woefully encounter these burred seedpods, which are hard as a rock and more painful to bare feet than a rogue lego.
