This is one part of the illustrated aspect of the I am Series. The faintest layer, the first layer, is a self portrait the first time. Written along with it are words describing how I see myself. These are my inner thoughts of myself and thus should be the lowest layer, since one cannot see another's true thoughts about one's self. The second layer are of how others see me. These tend to get others' attention about a person more so than the inner thoughts and can be seen easier. The third layer is the idea of who, and what, I actually am. The outer-most layer is the clearest of them all. No words are written to describe this third self portrait which, in one point of view, could be the part of me that is free from the confines of other's words, and mine. It is the purest form of me, and the freest, however, in some way, its identity is also attached to the identity I developed for myself and the identity others have made for me.

Inspired by Maya Lin, and several other artists, it seems as though I am stuck between two sides; Urban and Rural, Art and Technology, Thought and Feeling, Body and Spirit, North and South. Yet, in this odd place where the two meet, there seems to be a sense of infinite possibility, and finding that "right" balance interests me. Originally I was born in New Rochelle, NY June 7th 1991. By the age of 2, my family and I moved to Greensboro, NC where I spent my childhood before moving to Charlotte and have traveled between ever since. I enrolled as a Visual Arts major with a concentration in Media Design at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University and graduated May, 2014. Before my graduation, I engaged in a thesis research and study that began my current artist statement. "It is not unusual that the world is imbalanced, but the perceived lack of effort to restore that balance is. Specifically, the imbalance made by human activity regarding nature. As the ongoing pursuit of finding that 'middle place' for both worlds to coexist, I begin my contribution to the conversation with a living sculpture. The body of work is the research and creative material used to construct three design concepts for one living sculpture and the logic behind the final design choices. This living sculpture is in conjunction with a professor who is researching methods of 'sustainable design' and living. In this research, my goal is to explore the 'flaws' of the human condition and address specifically those regarding our treatment towards the environment. Along with this exploration, I make my statements about the situation through design, architecture, and formal research essays." As my research continues, I also explore other concepts and philosophies relating to some aspect of human interaction, or related to the human condition. My work, overall, is an expression from my reaction to the content I encounter. The work diligently aims to reorganizing, restore, or resolve what is involved with "the order of things".
