About The Artwork

The model for this piece was from Art Macabre Life Drawing , and it was executed at The Royal Academy Life Drawing Room. The original charcoal was a twenty minute pose. This has been digitally worked on and literary quote added from Lewis Carroll. The model was a larger girl, with a beautiful peroxide bob. She was playing the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. The original has been manipulated with tinted colours to produce prints. The number one print will be the 'original' as it were. The model had an expression of wistful innocence and I imagined her mind was far away: life models often endure excrutiating pain to hold poses so put themselves in this mindset. I imagined her dreaming of ponies; a childhood dream still held into adulthood. But the chess piece of the horse is menacing: we are in Wonderland, and its a dystopian vision. Is it a comment about body shape/image and distortion, sensuality, of innocence held on to? Yes, but a question not an answer.
