Yorkie Terrier Drawing

A friend of mine’s Yorkie just passed away recently. This dog was a rascal, always into something. She thought she was 500 times her real size and terrorized the huge Labrador into submission easily with a few well-placed yaps. This painting is part of a series exploring mixed media applications of watercolor, Derwent Inktense ink sticks, and chalk pastels. Most of the time the professional artist grade ink sticks are used by artists to create washes or loose drawings. I found that applying these pigment-rich​ sticks very thickly over washes of ink and watercolor gave incredible texture and vibrancy to the paintings.
