Neven Zoricic is an architect, artist and furniture designer who works in multiple media. He has worked in the studios of notable Italian architects such as Ettore Sottsass, Gae Aulenti and Gino Pollini, where he collaborated on many award-winning designs of interior and exterior spaces. His unique style as an artist blends a strong sense of realism with soaring imagination in color and context. He learned the basics of furniture design and construction in his father's carpentry shop, and uses his architectural and artistic training to create innovative and functional furniture and fixtures. Born in 1960 in Croatia, Neven graduated in 1986 from the University of Zagreb with a degree in architecture and immediately began working on residential projects in his native Dalmatia. In 1989 he transferred permanently to Milan, Italy. From 1990 to 1993, he worked in the studio of the Italian rationalist architect Gino Pollini, constructing numerous wooden models and prospectuses using various techniques. He also participated in the development of numerous projects, including theatres, hotels, residential centers, churches and the award-winning project for Piazza Fontana in Milan. During this period, he also participated in architectural competitions with Paolo Deganello (Church Squares of Milan) and Marco Porta ( restructuring of the main square of S. Giovanni Valdarno). In 1994 Neven started a five-year collaboration as project designer in the studio of Ettore Sottsass. Under Sottsass, he participated in some of the important projects in Italy at the end of the 20th century. In addition, he began a lasting collaboration with Gae Aulenti. He authored prospectuses for many of her projects. All of Neven's multiple talents came together when he was commissioned in 2007 to design every detail of the interior chapel for the "Greco-DeVecchi" Foundation in Bellagio (Lake Como), Italy. The project included design of all of the furniture in the chapel (benches, kneeling stools, pulpit, railings, etc.) and all lighting fixtures (constructed with plaster and metal), and creating elaborate murals for the lateral walls. Neven has exhibited his work at numerous galleries in Italy. n.zoricic@virgilio.it
