The picture is based on two works: 1) Alexander Pushkin's Little tragedies "a Feast during the plague" (translation of a fragment from" the Plague city " by John Wilson), 2) John Wilson's play "the Plague city". Feasting at the table are in a state of horror, despair, madness, a mixture of feelings and emotions to the current situation, out of them come vices and different feelings that are not characteristic of a person in normal conditions. There is a plague in England (17th century), all the characters are in turmoil in internal spiritual corruption, a priest approaches them, trying to turn their souls to repentance, to God, appealing to their hearts. Mary-the heroine with a lute accompanies the moment when the Central figure of the President sings an ode to death, the plague. This is the agony that the characters are in, not understanding what is waiting for them, perhaps they are already on their deathbed, a step from their end. All work is imbued with the drama of the human soul, as well as the work of writers. The very drama of human spiritual struggles is exposed by the proximity of the plague, which breathes in the back. Heroes are ready to meet death because of the loss of loved ones, even to fall asleep next to a corpse smelling of the plague, torn by grief and loss. In the minds of the absolute madness of despair and deep grief, despite the feast in such a terrible time as the plague. This feast is like an external protection from the circumstances of fate, like a desire to say that we have nothing to fear, nothing to lose.
