Progression Windows Drawing

This is a smoothly textured oil pastel drawing on thick paper. The inspiration behind this drawing actually came from a previous installation that I set up in an old metal school locker bank that had been left sitting in the hallway at my university, waiting to be hauled away to the scrapyard. I hung a light in the very back of a locker, then taped pieces of butcher paper in front of it, each one with a progressively larger rectangle cut out. The mysterious light rays shown through the "tunnel" and caught the edges of the paper layers along the way, making them glow. In this drawing, I attempted to capture the quality of that light emanating from an unknown origin, illuminating each layer. I hope that the viewer will have a sense of expanding and condensing in the same instant. Is it advancing toward you or retreating away? What is on the other side of that last (or first) window?
