About The Artwork
Where I live, impressive cypress trees surround fields and all cemeteries. They are also called mourning cypresses and can suggest spirituality, like for example in the painting "island of the dead" by Böcklin. This large ink drawing on paper from my "Cypress trees" series. It represents moving shadows of the trees, suggesting immateriality and silence. The lines are traced directly from the invisible lines between the shadows and the sunlight. The exact time intervals of when the shadows appeared on the paper is mentioned on the artwork.
