The installation represents the overconsumption of goods, food…. in the Western World. It’s title ‘Beyond the Pleasure Principle’ relates to Sigmund Freud’s concept of the drives that he re-formulated after World War 1. In this essay he distinguishes the Eros (the drive to invest libido into objects and narcissism) from Thanatos, (the drive to return to an inorganic state or Nirvana) Eros aims at the creation of greater entities, Thanatos at to destruction and death. Clinical evidence for the latter is found in melancholia and obsessional neurosis. The subject or speaking being is divided between these two drives and this work supposes to represent this division manifesting in the contemporary overproduction and overconsumption of technology, food, art…. Driven by his narcissistic libido, the subject tries more and more to create new products, which leads to an overproduction of waste and thus a destruction of the environment and finally himself, as no human life is possible without the planet. The overproduction of waste shows its effects in the contamination of the seas, which causes a high mortality rate and the contamination of fish and seabirds. The sculpture is divided in two parts, the right transparent one represents the repetition -compulsion of the death drive, whereas the colored plastic symbolizes narcissism and the drive to go forward, to create higher entities.

Zizi Rincolisky primarily writes texts about her experiences in different continents, countries and cultures. But writing alone is not enough for her. She searches for a visual image that approaches her idea about how these words containing meaning can be transformed into the thing, the object of art. The latter could be an installation, a painting, a photograph or text combined with drawings. But even this is not enough, Zizi wants encore, which she transforms into en corps in her performances and her films by using her body as a third element in the composition of text – object and body. Her work is inspired by the theory and practice of the philosopher and psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, who differs from the other analysts by his new definition of ‘feminine enjoyment’, beyond Freud for whom ‘anatomy is destiny.’ On the level of ’being’, a woman looks for ‘more’ (encore), beyond the limit of the phallus, what Lacan calls ‘surplus jouissance.’ This encore or surplus jouissance passes through each of the artist work like a leitmotiv.
