About The Artwork
The project Every Man is a Lonely Island is a site-specific installation made as an on site response to particular qualities of Alkatraz Gallery space and builds on its features. While the materiality and process of building and making DIY style plays an important part, thematically the installation is a staged existential drama inviting the spectator to take the central protagonistic role. Simple, yet symbolically strong narrative elements, light and dark, deconstructing and constructing elements of a house with little props set a stage and a plot for the viewer to become a participant.
