About The Artwork

Residing in Hawaii, I am deep into learning the culture, history, language and philosophy of the Hawaiian people and the islands. I wish to reflect the spirit of this through my current work. Primarily using oil on mirror, the painting in turn becomes an immersive 3D piece, with different perspectives and angles of the subject matter. I paint on mirrors that face and reflect from one another becoming one piece. We enter a world where we must face one another. They bare all. They are still but the emotion that is created between them, makes the movement.  The viewer becomes involved as they are part of the paintings. They are in between and around. They are perhaps confronted with their own demons, or things they never wanted to face or maybe just find their peace and happiness. Perhaps they discriminate or have been discriminated and therefore find a home within the pieces. The installation is a sort of psychological hall of mirrors where all is laid bare.
