About The Artwork

In this work I am interested in addressing the ambivalence of the feeling of love in our society and femicide as its most extreme consequence. Crochet is an element that I chose because weaving makes a universal reference to women and the domestic, but above all because of the fact that men and women weave our lives with established and repetitive patterns that guide us in the way we feel, perceive, think and Act. This is placed on a digital print with the names of the 162 women murdered by femicide in Costa Rica, between 2000 and 2006. These patterns are tied to an androcratic sociocultural order. Sometimes they are visible, obvious and explicit but mostly they are hidden behind normality. Following the thread of the Freudian clinic: there is no love without hate and hate is a manifestation of love, the phrase "I did it for love" is embroidered throughout the piece. This statement is present in the discourse of the perpetrators when they are asked the reasons why they murdered the women. The perpetual ambivalence of feeling arises as an inherent mandate from the establishment of private property where the concepts of infidelity, deception, betrayal and monogamy as a system are deeply rooted in us. From this perspective, love is one of the bondages in which we women live, and love is an instrument to exercise control and possession. Love veiled by hate and hate veiled by love.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

I create as means for expression of the female psyche, the exploration of eroticism and the search for freedom through sexuality as a way to counteract the female oppression. My objects are inspired by the tropical exuberance that has always surrounded me and accompany me thru my becoming. I examine forms of nature, especially flowers and their relationship with the erotic and creative energy, using colors, layers, and aggressions to the canvas. I have been inclined to use paint in because of a fascination that I have since I was a child, with colors and visual aesthetics. I also experiment with knits and fabrics because I am passionate about the geometry and the symbolism present in the techniques used historically by women. I have a need to connect with people and contribute in some way to these obsessions.
