About The Artwork
Within my practice I explore liminal identities, referencing my identity as a Sri Lankan living in Ireland, Sri Lanka’s postcolonial past and various economic, political and cultural factors which stem from post-colonialism. Trade is one such factor which particularly interests me. This piece explores the tea trade in Sri Lanka, British colonial intervention, the loss of certain aspects of Sri Lankan cultural identity and the hybridisation on a nation.
