About The Artwork

My works quantify the physical and emotional toll domestic labor takes on the traditional matriarchal role. Originated from a series of raw photographs I took that unveiled the erosion of a woman's body relating to her position as doting matriarch and expected housewife. These brave women shared experiences and bared their bodies for me. The visual senses that the photograph taken of the different types of bulging veins expanding through the natural landscape embodies pain, time and pressure. The scale and close-up of the image printed on a sheet fabric imitates the skin, draped and installed on a clothing line secured with clothing pins. This allows the audience to possess the decades of wear and tear that embellish their skin. You will receive the sheet, rope and clothing pins. Work may is to be installed against wall at 72" high and pinned onto rope.

Stephanie is a first generation American born in Philadelphia, PA. She comes from an Israeli-Tunisian-Libyan background. Hadad’s works represent and touch upon the physical toll incurred by woman that have taken on the role of a traditional domesticated housewife. Stephanie acknowledges and plays with the conscious ideas her position holds within this role and is continuously being redefined by her experiences. Through studies, research and exploration of her individuality and culture, Hadad has taken a political and yet poetic approach to voice her works through a diverse and often unconventional range of media, including installation, sculpture, video, photography and works on paper. Each piece corresponds with the others, creating a narrative for women.
