About The Artwork

1000 champagne cork caps make up 1000 Days. Collected since 1986 at every party, dinner, family gathering, booze up, wedding, you name it. Built the frame and prepared the board with rulers and compass and created the design and placed the caps. Then the tedious bit, removing them all bit by bit to remove the pencil lines. Replaced caps and added duck egg blue around the edges. Next a clear resin coating for stability, three of four in fact. Viewers make their own minds up about what 1000 Days represents, to me it recalls the good times (and some bad) experienced in that period. Some see an Inca design, mandala, mosaic, tapestry, industrial butterfly, heraldic piece, even a toy railway layout!  Though measured precisely, there are discrepancies which avoid the appearance of a machine made creation. The right side is represented by the ying yang symbol (in the centre of the piece), as male... tighter, darker and more military in appearance, the left side, female, open, lighter, more colourful. There is a hidden out of place Dom Perignon 1972 and a Baron Rothschild relegated to the outer ranks, in the right hand corner a curve of caps inscribed A B C D in order, on both ends of the curve.  Several other quirks await the keen eye.

Born - Bournemouth

I used to paint posters for my bording school dances, then psychedelic murals on club walls in London. Well, at least what I thought that word meant! Went on to do music, TV scriptwriting and landscaping. Back to art and music now and enjoying using modern tools.

Creative inspiration? From anybody who creates anything one can get lost or found in.
So many...my parents took me to the Louvre and Palace of Versailles as a boy, I recall leaving stunned at the splendour, and then spending the next three weeks drawing pictures of Louis X1V furniture. We also went to that amazing Dutch gallery surrounded by a moat, the artworks in there were like photos, fabulous. Art can take the viewer into an irresistible world, whether familiar or new.
