Sam Taylor-Wood Blinded by the Light Installation

This piece is the second in the readymade icons series and marks my first entry in to the Saatchi Showdown art prize. The artwork links Stephan Huber's "Works in Wealth III" wheelbarrow chandelier with Sam Taylor-Wood's suspended "Escape Artist." In addition, the piece reduces the Showdown title (The Body Electric) literally to its primary elements using electricity as a medium for the body of work. The “body” of work comprises an electrically illuminated chandelier reworked from discarded light fittings from a building site (Huber's wheelbarrow) and celebrates the work of filmmaker and YBA Sam Taylor-Wood. Entitled: “Sam Taylor-Wood Blinded by the Light” the form and line of the artwork is suggestive of the artist’s 2008 photo-manipulation series “Escape Artist” in which the artist explores space through her own body suspended by multi-coloured balloons.
