About The Artwork
A delicate circle of light stretches across the surface of the emerald green quartzite of STONE\LIGHT No. 1 and seems to float above it like a breath. Light and stone come together in a new way in this light object, creating a special unity and atmosphere. The natural power of quartzite and its contrasting qualities of hardness and softness in its grace are emphasised by the respective colour and grain. The green Emerald Quartzite from Brazil with its cloudy structure, shows coloured grains from light green over creamy white to copper. This is a very individually drawn. The frame of STONE\LIGHT No. 1 underlines the beauty of the stone with its inner circle of light by corresponding in colour with it in copper or brass, just like the small cuff. This light object creates a subtle light full of delicacy and atmosphere. The cloudy grains in the emerald green quartzite, whose origin lies in the quarries of Mirangaba in eastern Brazil, cancel out the strict symmetry of the circular light object. Each object is unique and, depending on the section of the slab, shows its own organic effect, which is due to its formation over 350 million years ago. A play of strict symmetry and organic nature is created. With STONE\LIGHT No. 1, you not only get a delicate light object, but also a piece of nature for the interior, which is powerful and delicate at the same time, just like nature itself as a source of my inspiration.

Creating a magical poetry of light with subtlety is the challenge of every light object and every light installation of my light artworks. Because the desire to work with spaces and, above all, to breathe atmosphere into them is my greatest motivation. As an light artist, coming from design and interior architecture, I combine art, architecture and design in my projects. A play of translucency and lightness begins with every object in the material. I love creating volume with light without obstructing the view. I break the light down into its individual parts and put it back together again: The sun and LED are the light sources, the fibre optics are transmitters and the material becomes the body. Using the light in a subtle way so that it leaves delicate traces in interior spaces is made possible by the manually processed fibre optics, which form the heart of each handmade light object. In the objects themselves, this creates a sparkle, a dance, a magical interplay of lightness and translucency. In 2015, I founded ATARA design. As a German artist and designer, I live and work in Vienna, the city that constantly inspires me. I love to travel for inspiration, especially to faraway countries. Transformation is my central theme here, because combining different techniques and materials from different areas and cultures and placing them in a new context has fascinated me since my childhood.
