About The Artwork

It is a text written with charcoal and ashes in the wall, that ends in a pile of burnt found wood, accompanied by the sound of a crackling fire. I wrote the text in spanish, but I have an english translation for exhibitions abroad: “A Beginning” The stairs in this hill were crooked, my feet reached a different angle on every step that I took, and at times it's tip almost couldn't hold myself up. Just like my teeth before the treatment; every step appeared as if made in different times and with different purposes. One side of the hill was wild, railed with messed up sticks and barbed wire darkened by oxide, rustling and moving as if nothing contained them. The houses to the other side appeared just like the stairs that presented them; one over the other, doors by the air and stairways with no exit, everything seemed a little forgotten but with lights by the entrances. A pair of open windows slammed against a cement wall once and again, and the wires didn't stop moving up and down shaking the lamp-posts in the streets. I hadn't reached a third of the stairs when the rain shower fell, as if buckets of water hurled from the skies, in just an instant I was soaking wet like a homeless dog. I climbed as fast as I could, It even was hard for me to breath and see, and suddenly I entered one of the houses, it's door was half opened and I glimpsed some light by the inside, it must have been the survival instinct, but the fact is that I went in soaking wet and closed the door behind me. I opened my eyes and inspired to recover my breath. A bit drowned still I slowly slid my sight around. I was in the middle of a cocktail, quite silent, many men and women were eating canapés and drinking in martini glasses. Many of them wore silk scarfs and dark clothing, almost everyone had their hair combed-back; short and tight dresses of bright fabrics; they intended to be elegant. I was offered champagne, they were celebrating something, they brought canapés, and suddenly I was in the middle of a crowd. They were a little impersonal, somehow sedated and warmth-less, and everyone showed interest in everyone, but specially in me, the one that was new. The smoke of the cigarettes flowed sensuous in the air, and suddenly the hands of those people stretched, they extended themselves and moved like snakes until they reached my soaking body. -Take off those soaking clothes and leave them by the fire- said one of the men with a cocky tone, while he slipped my jacket down and pressed it to my stomach. Five or six were assisting me, and while they went over my body the eyes of those hands were fixed to mine; they wanted to seduce me. They moved skillfully down to the inside of my pants, but I didn't want, and a little confused I took them off me. -I can do it myself, and with the jacket is OK, it's waterproof.- I put it on back and went to the entrance. How could it be that I had to stay in a place like this? There only was sex in the eyes of this people, everything was an excuse to drop their pants off and raise the sight searching for a new hole to penetrate, lick their anuses, gather fluids on their faces; empty their heads like disposable bottles. I saw it and left. I climbed the stairs and took my way home, and although I was still wet the storm had ended. The uncertainty of the dark sky and a lonely melancholy was all that remained. There was in me a stain like an un-vomited vomit, an unknown vigor had grown in my interior, a darkness in the mind that had to be enlighten. An unknown space in the chambers of my brain that was turning tangible, and shivered like when a vibration is about to start. My head yearned to be explored, and the body wasn't alienated; it had to go.

I was born in 1987, Chile. I studied Fine Arts, sculpture, in the Fine Arts School of Viña del Mar, and currently I'm coursing a Ceramics specialty. I believe in the importance of telling stories, sharing ideas and thoughts, I believe in art that is free from preconceptions, and that flows genuinely in search of what is essential; that is my goal in life and arts, and the path I choose to follow is that of the exploration of my interior self. Because when we stand up and participate in the culture dialogue owning our individuality, we make visible the individualities of everybody else; masculinities, feminities, humanities; we stand out the raw material of which the human society has been built upon; the individual. I believe in the concept of cultural mosaic, and in the moment we exhibit we make sensible our existence in this mosaic. I like to perceive a sort of symbolism in concrete matter; found objects carry the contents of their history, my possessions are attached with my own biography, tools are filled with the evolution of human made purposes; and since matter equals energy, I do not exclude any medium or material when it comes to achieving my goal: the sincere development of my expressive will.
