About The Artwork

WAR TOYS – An exhibition by Stelio Diamantopoulos In many of his artworks, Stelio Diamantopoulos uses symbols and icons of our history and the society. Addressing issues of our time in a socio-critical way is an important part of his work. The exhibition WAR TOYS deals with the exploitation of children by war. The central motif are depictions of child soldiers as the artist sees them as one of the strongest symbols to demonstrate what can be produced by war and unfairness in the world. It is Diamantopoulos’ main goal to draw attention to a difficult topic and to sensitize the visitors of the exhibition. Furthermore, the artist aims to create a counterpole to the commercial art market during the ART Basel. The main focus of the exhibition should lie on the thought-provoking message. For this, the Elisabethenkirche, a neo-Gothic church in the heart of Basel provides the ideal setting. WAR TOYS is the result of a series of artworks created by Diamantopoulos in the last years. The presented artworks were specifically designed for the exhibition in the Elisabethenkirche and form a thematic unit. The main item of this impressing installation is a inflatable oversized rubber duck. The installation also includes six oversized images of child soldiers. Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

STELIO DIAMANTOPOULOS shows his paintings in exhibitions since 1986. First inspired by surrealistic art, he slowly turned towards political Pop Art. His strong views on the power behind standardized ad campaigns and the way portraits void of any trace of humanity have become commonplace, underlines the disintegration of our relationship with symbolic figures. His characters only reveal silhouettes cut-out like so many urban stencils. Diamantopoulos calls this series «Go West» including titels like «Enjoy Liberty», «Consume», «One Way» and «Made In America» which claim our individual responsibility as consumers and members of the society. The works of Diamantopoulos have been seen in Paris, London, Geneva, Monaco, Munich, Cologne, Basel, Zurich, Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, New York and Miami. They are part of several collections, exhibited mainly in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, Morocco, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates and the USA.
