About The Artwork
Mercerized cotton was used regularly in Spain to crochet baby clothes and it brings me memories of my grandmother and aunties knitting and chatting around the table in long afternoons. I use the same yarns (extending to chenille and other cottons) and techniques to create small coloured pockets of material which I then surround with crocheted golden aluminium wire 1mm gauge; this allows me to stretch and shape the fibers showcasing what I call 'the web'. Then I put the designed pockets together into an abstract or sometimes slightly figurative composition, and surround the composition again with a border or crocheted aluminium for stability. This particular work is then displayed clipped on a metal board. My aim is to feel close to my textile heritage yet create something new. The final effect is a calm infusion of textured colour and reminds of modern mosaics.

My work comes as standing pieces, hanging sculptures or framed mixed fabric paintings. Techniques include crochet and basketry. I work with copper and aluminium and mix these with materials including cotton, perlé, wool, jute, raffia, organdie and others. Frames are recovered. Every piece is hand made by me and unique.
